Principal's report to the PTO -- Aug.-Sept. 2014

We’re off to another good start this year.  Our enrollment is about the same as it has been for the past several years; we’ve enrolled about 570 students in grades K-5 this school year.

We have several new teachers on staff this year, mostly replacing our teachers who retired at the end of last year.  Ms. Poland, Ms. Hanno, Mr. Bergs, Ms. Foubert, and Ms. Fisk have joined our staff.  Likewise, a few teachers have changed assignments this year.  Ms. Arnold is teaching a fifth, (not a ⅘ mulitage), Ms. Grimmett is teaching fourth (not 3rd), and Mr. McAllister is teaching our technology classes this year (rather than 1st).  Ms. Perkins moved from 2-3 SEI to become our on-site SEI coach and Mr. Axler is our new school psychologist.  In addition to all these new changes, we’ve hired nearly a dozen new paraprofessionals since June to work with our special education services to them as-needed.

We’re very excited about Connect To School night coming up next Thursday, Sept. 11, which will replace our less-structured traditional Back To School Open House Night with an evening of parents and teachers together charting student progress and goal setting in an effort to enhance and strengthen our partnerships with our parents and thus better ensure student success.

Magnet Monday will feature 17 different electives this year, including several new offerings.  It will begin on Sept 8.  Suzuki for our all of K-2 students will also begin the same week.
