Winter weather update for fifth-grade families

Hello Marshall fifth-grade families,

As you know, your child’s class is scheduled to visit Mount Elden Middle School tomorrow, Wednesday, February 20, 2013.  However, as you’re also likely aware, the weather tomorrow may prove troublesome.  In the event of a snow-delay or a snow-day, our middle school visitation day will be rescheduled for another date.  If, on the other hand, school takes place as-usual tomorrow middle school visitations will occur as scheduled.  Thank you for understanding.

Science Fair Night This Wednesday

Mr. Kasch
has helped coordinate
the Marshall Science Fair
for 26 years!
As an Arts and Science magnet school, we feel like we're obligated to throw one of the very best Science Fairs in town. And we think we do!  We've had a lot of practice.  Marshall has been hosting its own locally-grown Science Fair every year for the past 26 years!

This year, we've got almost 200 Science Fair displays arranged in the school cafeteria, covering topics ranging from Earth Science to Physical Science and beyond.  Our professional-scientist judges assembled yesterday afternoon, despite our Snow-day, to assess each and every project and bestow ribbons to our winners and runners-up.

Please plan to attend our 26th annual Science Fair Open House Night this Wednesday evening, February 13, from 5:30 until 7:00 PM, in order to see all the wonderful work our young scientists have produced!  If you can't make it here on Wednesday evening, be sure to stop in to the cafeteria whenever you can, between now and Thursday morning, to check it all out.

Title 1 at Marshall Magnet School

As a federally-subsidized Title 1 school, Marshall is required to periodically update our community-stakeholders on how the program is being implemented at our school.  Previously, we've been able to update you on the components of our Title 1 Family Involvement Plan and our school-wide Continuous Improvement Plan [.pdf].

Below you will find a slideshow which is intended to provide you with an overview of our entire school-wide Title 1 program, how it impacts instruction and student achievement for all students at Marshall, and ways parents can be involved.   The district has also created a helpful brochure [.pdf] which identifies many of the key components of the federal Title 1 program.  We will review both the slideshow and brochure, as well as provide you with an opportunity to ask questions about our Title 1 program, at this week's upcoming PTO meeting.
