Fit Kids At School

Flagstaff Medical Center and its children’s wellness program, Fit Kids of Arizona, recently invested an unprecedented $1 million with the Flagstaff Unified School District to launch a new health and wellness initiative called Fit Kids at School

Flagstaff Medical Center's investment in Fit Kids at School is focused on long-term community health promotion. The new program will be officially rolled out district-wide to all 10 FUSD elementary schools on Sept. 17.

The initiative has enabled Marshall Magnet School to hire Anna Hudson as our newest staff member to lead structured health and fitness activities throughout the school day beginning next week, including structured play during recesses and an extra 30-minute physical education class for each grade level once a week. These enhancements to our existing health and physical education curriculum will increase students’ physical activity from 35 minutes per week to more than 270 minutes per week.

For more information about Fit Kids at School, please call Allison Mitkowski at (928) 214-3546.

Arizona Public School Tax Credit program

This key fundraising incentive program works to the advantage of most Arizona tax-payers as well as for Marshall Magnet School.

Whether you're a single parent, a married family filing jointly, or an more mature couple with grown children, Arizona's Tax Credit program enables you to give part of your annual state taxes directly to Marshall Magnet School, rather than to the state Department Of Revenue.

This opportunity to provide direct support to Marshall School's unique magnet programs is your chance to make the decision about precisely how your tax dollars are spent to directly benefit your child's, and every child's, public school experience at Marshall Magnet School.

It works for us, and it works for you.

This evening's ConnectEd phone call

Below is the text of this evening's ConnectEd phone call:

Hello everyone. We're calling this evening with a bit of happy news. Enrollments at Marshall school appear to be growing everyday and we believe that our burgeoning numbers are a wonderful endorsement of our school, it's unique magnet programs, and our exceptional, highly-qualified faculty and staff. We're grateful for the outpouring of support that we've received in this regard from our parents and community over the course of the past summer.

However, in the short-term, this kind of enrollment growth is not without its challenges, and we're well aware that some of our classes, especially our fourth and fifth grades, appear to be bursting at the seams at the moment. That's why we're pleased to be able to let you know that we're prepared to move forward in a positive manner by putting a new teacher in place if necessary, just as soon as we have an accurate accounting of our actual enrol

lment, sometime shortly after the first day of school.

In the meantime, I'm also happy to be able to report that we will have additional support staff in place on Monday, the first day of school, to assist our fourth and fifth grade teachers and students in the event our current enrollment projections indeed prove to be accurate.

Thanks for your patience and understanding as we do our best to manage our ever-growing school for the benefit of all of our students.

See you on Monday morning.

Tonight's ConnectEd Call

Below is the text of this evening's ConnectEd phone call:

Hello Marshall families. We're calling tonight with one final friendly reminder: school starts on Monday! Our teachers have been hard at work in their classrooms this week and we're all very excited to see you back at school soon!

Monday will be a regular school day for everyone except our kindergarteners, who will be dismissed at 12:25 on Monday. The first bell will ring at 8:35 and the tardy bell at 8:40 every morning all year. And we will dismiss school at 3:20 Monday through Thursday and at 12:25 every Friday.

In order to foster what we hope will be a safer and more orderly dismissal procedure at Marshall, we will be changing our end of the school day dismissal process a bit this year. Therefore we would like to encourage parents who pick up their students in person after school to always arrive on time and to wait patiently at the front of the building for parent-pickup students to be released.

Also, please remember: there is a large construction project on Thorpe Rd west of the school which has rendered the roadway inaccessible. When dropping off your students at school, please enter the parking lot across the street from the south and exit to the north. Attempting to do otherwise will cause traffic delays.

The text of today's ConnectEd phone call...

Hello Marshall families.

On behalf of our entire faculty and staff I'd like to say "welcome back to school" to everyone. We've got a few quick but important updates for you prior to the start of the year.

If you aren't following us on Facebook, you may not be aware that our 2012-2013 class lists are posted on the front windows of the school. Please come by and check them out when you have a chance. Sorry, but we're not able to publish these lists online.

Classes begin in just about a week and a half, on Monday, August 13 for all students. Monday the 13th will be a regular school day for everyone except our kindergarteners, who will be dismissed at 12:25 on Monday. Our bell schedule will remain the same this year. The first bell will ring at 8:35 and the tardy bell at 8:40 every morning. We will dismiss school at 3:20 Monday through Thursday and at 12:25 every Friday.

Be advised: there is a large construction project on Thorpe Rd west of the school which has rendered the roadway inaccessible. When dropping off your students at school, please enter our parking lot from the south and exit to the north. Attempting to do otherwise will cause traffic delays. And, as always, please remember: the bus lane is for buses only. Please don't drop students off in the bus lane during our hours of operation.

Finally, please know that we're very aware that some of our upper grade classes appear to be quite large at this time. We have every intention of reducing these class sizes shortly after the beginning of the school year, once we have an accurate accounting of our actual enrollment numbers. If your child is enrolled in one of these classes, please do not lose hope. We're very confident that we will be able to add the necessary teaching staff and reorganize our upper grade classes once we're able to determine that we must do so.  Thanks for being patient with us.
