The Principal's Report

Typically, at our monthly PTO meetings, our interim principal, Mr. Coe, is given the opportunity to present a brief Principal's Report to those in attendance about what's been going on around Marshall Magnet School.  However, in view of other pressing business, it was determined to forego hearing his report in-person this month.  Therefore, we've decided to publish his Principal's Report online this month.

Mr. Coe's Principal’s Report
December 2011-January 2012

Tax Credit Campaign

  • We made the $5000.00 match during the month of December!
  • Our average Tax Credit donation was over $280.00 per contributor, the highest average contribution rate on record.
  • The site council has begun to carry out our ongoing 2012 monthly-giving Tax Credit campaign; the campaign stresses that by giving $36.36 per couple, $18.18 per individual, from Feb. through December, donors can make their entire contribution a little at a time; posters calling attention to this program have been placed throughout the school and posts in this regard will be made to Facebook and the blog during Feb. and again in April at tax time; tax credit contributions can now be made online via credit/debit card; a link to donate via this method has been place on the blog.

Social Media attention
  • Purchased exclusive, new domain name for the blog: MarshallMagnetSchool.com
  • We continue to have much success using online social media to convey our messages to our community.  The blog received 800 pageviews last month; 8000 pageviews since August.  Our Facebook page has 141 followers.
  • Another issue of our on-paper newsletter, The Marshall Magnet [.pdf], went home earlier in the month and generally contained reprints of several key blog posts.
Fifth Grade orientation
  • The counseling staff from both FUSD middles schools visited with our fifth graders in January to apprise them of some of the things they can expect when matriculating into 6th grade next year.
  • The MEMS Band will be on-site tomorrow to give our fifth graders a preview of the middle school instrumental music programs.
NAU Praxis Program
  • We are pleased to have welcomed the NAU Praxis Program to our campus last month.  Each cadre of pre-service Praxis Program education students will work in a wide variety of of our classrooms in multi-week rotations for the next two semesters.
Promethean Boards
  • We were able to have the Promethean ActiveClassroom RV on-site last week to give our teachers and community members a preview of some of the features and advantages of their interactive whiteboards.
  • We have purchased 10 new boards, including 1 for the computer lab, with Mustang Gallop funds.  We were able to receive a substantial discount on this purchase due to the PTO’s participation in helping our school purchase these new devices!
Odds and ends
  • December’s Cookie Walk was a huge success.  Hundreds attended and (as far as we know) everyone went home smiling and with an ample supply of cookies in-hand.
  • The first of several schoolwide Positive Behavior Support initiatives, this time emphasizing Fairness, began this month.  Students recognized at any time during the school day by any staff member will receive a coupon.  Students who receive 30 coupons recognizing them for demonstrating Fairness before March will be recognized in during a schoolwide assembly.
  • We collected over 1000 cans of food at the annual Food Drive.
  • The Spelling and Geography Bees were both held in January and many of our students did extraordinary work preparing for and participating in these competitions.
  • Science Fair Help Night went well on Jan. 10th; Science Fair project are due on the 9th of Feb. and the Fair will take place throughout the week of the 13th.
  • Baker and Kasch Fifth Graders are scheduled to go skiing at Snowbowl on Feb. 16th.
