Shonto Begay PAWS Sculpture

The Coconino Coalition for Children and Youth delivered our newly completed PAWS Lion last week!  It was painted by renown local artist Shonto Begay and it looks really cool. It's Number 22 in the series.  Perhaps you've seen a few of the other PAWS Lions around Flagstaff?  Lion Number One is installed in front of Bookmans.

What's a PAWS Lion?  Glad you asked!

PAWS - Promoting Assets with Sculpture, [is] a community arts and education project of the Coconino Coalition for Children & Youth that is bringing together youth, artists, non-profit organizations, businesses, and individuals to highlight the opportunities and resources that our young community members need to succeed

We're proud to be a part of this important community program!

The Marshall PAWS Lion focuses on the theme of School Engagement and asks the question "What do you love about learning?"  Extra-special thanks to Mrs. Perkin's 2010-11 fourth grade class who collaborated with artist Shonto Begay on our sculpture.

For the time-being the sculpture is on display inside the front entrance to the school.  But we're hoping to have it permanently installed out front, for all the world to see, very soon!
